Andrea Mortson's paintings invite us into a dreamlike world where symbols and colours are engaged in a captivating dialogue with reality. Imaginary landscapes, existing as outward manifestations of an inner state, transport us to a magical world, both free and romantic, that evokes a sense of escape and the recollection of lost moments.

 

A resident of Sackville, New Brunswick, Andrea Mortson was nominated for the RBC Canadian Painting Competition in 2004 and a Sobey Art Award in 2008.

 

Her work has been presented at the Ottawa Art Gallery (ON), Artcite (Windsor, ON), the Khyber Centre for the Arts (Halifax, NS), the Edmonton Art Gallery (now the Art Gallery of Alberta)(AB), the Beaverbrook Art Gallery (Fredericton, NB), and Struts Gallery (Sackville, NB).

 

She took part in the Oh, Canada exhibition at MASS MoCA (Massachusetts, USA) and the Painting Project at the Galerie de l'UQAM (Montreal).

 

Andrea Mortson was also included in the emerging artist category of Carte Blanche, Vol. 2: Painting published by the Magenta Fondation (ON).

 

Her work is collected by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Confederation Centre of the Arts (PE), the Canada Council for the Arts Art Bank, as well as private collections in Canada and the U.S.
